Kennedy -Sept 21, 2005 :-( Officer Johnny Raines, of the Black Mountain Police Department, stands by a pedestrian walkway in downtown Black Mountain. Across from the corner of State Street and Cherry Street, he waits as the cars and trucks drive past him without even slowing. When there is a break in the line of cars heading west towards Asheville, Raines steps out onto State Street. Cars heading east continue on their way and he is forced to halt in the middle of the street: “See that,” Raines said. “They don’t even stop" ...
