Prices - USA - Diesel cost big pothole for truckers

Denver,CO,USA -Denver Post, by Beth Potter -18 Nov 2005: -- Trucker Jeff Melby of Westminster watched the pump tick past $440 as he topped off his 18-wheeler with diesel fuel at Tomahawk Truck Stop near Brighton for the 745-mile run to El Paso... He said the high diesel prices make him angry... "It's crazy. Diesel costs more than regular gas now," said Melby, 36, who works for Wiest Truck Line... Kabira Hatland, a Coors spokeswoman, said the Golden- based beermaker is taking steps to cut those transport costs by sending more goods by rail... The high costs of fuel have hurt trucking companies, said Rick Yost, a spokesman for V-Y Truck Line Inc., a Sterling company that transports cattle... "It's had a pretty devastating impact on the truck industry as a whole," Yost said. "I wouldn't be in business at all if I couldn't pass it on."... Melby said consumers should be worried, too, since truckers "haul everything - if you're wearing it, eating it, playing with it or sleeping on it."... "Somebody's gotta pay for all that," he said...
