Infraestructures - S. Korea - After 60 years, Asian superhighway getting ready to roll

PUSAN, South Korea -The Asahi Shimbun (Japan), by HAJIMU TAKEDA -17 Dec 2005: -- People waiting at a bus stop in this South Korean port city were surprised to see a silver-colored Japanese truck rolling down the street one recent morning... But what today is regarded as an oddity may become an everyday sight all around Asia if a long-awaited superhighway linking major regions across the continent goes ahead... The entry of Japanese trucks into South Korea could be a model for the planned "Asian Highway" project that would connect all of the Asian regions with highways... The Asian Highway project consists of 55 routes with a total length of 140,000 kilometers... The 20,000-kilometer Route No. 1 will connect Tokyo with Istanbul, passing through Beijing, Hanoi and New Delhi...
