Toronto,Ont,Canada -Toronto Star -Jan. 19, 2006: -- One of the more terrifying spectres of highway driving is the image of a fully loaded 18-wheeler looming large in the rear-view mirror... So, it is not surprising that many Ontario motorists welcomed calls this week by the Ontario Trucking Association for mandatory "speed limiters." Such devices, installed in truck engines, would prevent truckers from driving at speeds higher than 105 km/h... All Ontario truckers agree that driving at lower speeds helps to cut fuel consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, both worthy goals. But there is a simmering dispute within the industry over the need for mandatory speed limiters and the impact on road safety...
