St. Thomas,Canada -St. Thomas Times/Journal, by Ian McCallum -March 27, 2006: -- After 16 days of walking picket lines, nearly 2,100 Sterling truck employees put down their strike signs and returned to the production line beginning with the midnight shift Sunday... In addition to ratifying “an excellent collective agreement,” members of CAW Local 1001 will see production at the South Edgeware Road plant ramp up by more than five per cent before the end of the year … the result of an “injection of not just capital but of confidence.”... The contract, overwhelmingly approved Saturday at Centennial Hall in London, Ont., includes a wage increase of slightly more than eight per cent over the life of the three-year pact... More than 1,400 employees cast ballots with 92 per cent of production workers and 95 per cent of skilled trade workers voting in favour of the deal...
