Oakland,CA,USA -KCBS/CBS 5 (San Francisco) -Mar 19, 2006: -- Emissions from the Port of Oakland nearly doubled after the Port undertook a major expansion nearly nine years ago, according to West Oakland residents, who sued over the increased pollution... Terms of a settlement with the West Oakland Neighbors Association require the Port to set aside $2 million to purchase new, cleaner trucks for drivers who use the port, in order to mitigate some of the Port’s overall emissions... Diesel trucks built in 1983 emit anywhere from 50 to 90 percent more pollutants than one built in 2000, according to one of the port’s environmental scientists, Tim Leong...
