GreenNews - Canada - Trucking group pushes plan for reducing emissions

Canada -Globe and Mail -29 June 2006: -- The Canadian Trucking Alliance will unveil a "14-point action plan" today to cut greenhouse gas emissions, including the activation of so-called speed limiters on trucks to restrict them to travelling no faster than 105 kilometres an hour... David Bradley, the alliance's chief executive officer, will urge Ottawa to endorse the use of speed limiters that electronically slow down a truck's engine... The group will also suggest the introduction of certain tax incentives and other financial programs to promote smog reduction with new technology. Other goals include boosting the installation of auxiliary power units to cut truck idling and using single, wide-base tires to improve fuel efficiencies... The alliance is a federation of provincial trucking associations, representing a cross-section of the sector, with more than 4,500 carriers, owner-operators and suppliers...
