Regulatory Changes - Canada - Canadian Trucking Alliance Cautions Transport Ministers on

Ottawa,BC,Canada -LAYOVER -June 22, 2006: -- The Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety should not back away from a January 1, 2007 implementation date for the new Canadian hours of service regulations, and should consider first and foremost the safety record of smaller trucks if a change is to be made to the National Safety Code weight threshold. So says the Canadian Trucking Alliance in a recent communique to the federal, provincial and territorial transport ministers... No formal acknowledgement has been made by any provincial government that the January 2007 coming-into-force date of the hours of service rules will be missed. But, there is increasing concern among industry representatives that not all jurisdictions will be ready. So-called legislative windows are needed in some provinces, public hearings must be held in others, and in all of them the new regulations must be signed off by government lawyers and provincial cabinets...
