Drivers' Shortage - Australia - Truckies campaign against foreign drivers
Sydney,New South Wales,Australia -The Sunday Telegraph -Oct 26, 2006: -- NSW truckers launched a campaign against plans to import foreign drivers, which they say will turn the nation's roads into a "killing field"... The truck drivers will today start lobbying state and federal politicians to block plans by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) to fill labour shortages with drivers from overseas... The Transport Workers Union (TWU) described the plans as nothing but a means to provide trucking companies with cheap labour... “At the moment what we have is a plan to cripple the industry and put the livelihood of Australian truck drivers, their families and the public at risk”...
