Raphael Grzebieta, associate professor at the department of civil engineering at Monash University and a past president of the Australian College of Road Safety, said trucks should be banned from the right-hand lane on freeways — as is the case in Britain — and the speed limit cut to 60 km/h in tunnels... But the chief executive of the Australian Trucking Association, Stuart St Clair, said it was too early to apportion blame for the accident and said trucks should be able to drive in any lane as long as they did not speed. State assistant commissioner for traffic Noel Ashby said possible changes to the tunnel included reducing the 80km/h speed limit, restricting trucks to the inside lane and installing emergency lanes...
