* DC - DOT Urges More Mexican Truckers to Participate in Cross-Border Program

Washington,DC,USA -Transport Topics/The San Diego Union-Tribune -27 Feb 2012: -- U.S. Department of Transportation officials have urged more Mexican carriers to apply for the cross-border trucking program... DOT officials said at a Friday meeting in Tijuana, Mexico, near the Otay Mesa, Calif., border crossing that more enrollment by Mexican truckers was critical to the program’s success... To date, just 21 Mexican companies have sought to join the program, said Marcelo Perez, a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration official. FMCSA is part of DOT... In November, a third Mexican carrier passed preliminary U.S. safety review to participate in the two countries’ cross-border trucking program...
