* Canada - CAW: Workers go on strike at two auto supplier plants in Ontario 

ONT,CAN -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -October 28, 2012: -- Workers at two automotive supplier plants in Ontario, Canada, have gone on strike, according to the Canadian Auto Workers... The union said CAW represented workers went on strike early Sunday morning at Lear Corp.'s Whitby plant after negotiations between the union and auto supplier broke down... CAW Local 222 represents about 400 workers at the plant. They took a strike vote recently, with 97 percent agreeing to strike if necessary... The CAW says workers at Wescast Industries Inc. in Strathroy, Ontario, also went on strike Saturday, due to a souring decision by General Motors Co. to move work completed at the facility to China...



- AUTOS' RECALLS - 

* New Jersey / USA - BMW recalls cars over transmission control problem

Woodcliff Lake,NJ,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News -October 27, 2012: -- German automaker BMW is recalling some of its 7-Series luxury cars due to reports of transmission control problems that can cause parked vehicles to roll away... The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Saturday that the problem has caused at least 14 crashes and possibly 5 injuries. The recall involves cars with model years from 2005 to 2008 that have push-button start and electronic transmission controls...  The system automatically shifts the car's transmission to park when the driver presses the start/stop button, but it may leave the transmission in neutral if the driver presses the button two or three times in a short span, the NHTSA said Saturday. The cars can then roll away unexpectedly and crash... The recall involves 45,500 vehicles...


* DC - NHTSA investigating 310K Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable cars 


Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -October 26, 2012: -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday it is opening an investigation into 310,000 older Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable cars over reports of unintended sudden acceleration... Ford spokeswoman, Marcey Zweibelsaid the company is "aware of NHTSA's preliminary investigation on the 2000 to 2003 Taurus and Sable models, and we will cooperate fully with the agency as we conduct our analysis. We have just begun our investigation and have very limited information at this time" ... NHTSA said it is opening an investigation into the 2000-03 models after receiving 50 complaints alleging incidents of stuck throttle due to a broken plastic bracket that holds the speed control cable in place... The vehicles under investigation are equipped with 4-valve 3.0L V6 Duratec engines...
