Compared to Autocar, many other manufacturers start to build their refuse trucks on a traditional truck production line, then take them off the line to be individually modified for refuse in a massive in-house "mod shop." This disjointed production often involves a new set of processes, systems, engineering, people and documentation, which can result in production errors, inefficiencies and finished products of poor quality... Autocar, however, custom-engineers its refuse truck, the Xpeditor ACX, for each customer order before production begins. The truck is then built on a single line from start to finish. Montreal,QBC,CAN -Today's Trucking News, by Rolf Lockwood -Sep 20, 2013: -- The Performance Innovation Transport (PIT) group, a not-for-profit engineering and research enterprise that's part of FPInnovations, made useful news this week. During its biannual Energotest event at the Transport Canada test track in Blainville, QC, it announced the results of five years of performance evaluations on trailers equipped with side skirts and undercarriage aerodynamic devices. The skirts won... The test results show that trailers with side skirts consumed an average of 6.69% less fuel than similar vehicles without skirts. Trailers with undercarriage aerodynamic devices consumed 1.43% less fuel on average than similar units without the deflectors...
