* Karnakata - Near halt of new road projects, ban on mining affect truck sales

Bangalore,KARN,India -ENS/Economic Bureau -7 October 2013: -- Prevalent economic conditions in the country are adding to the woes of truck makers here as the segment registered its fifth successive quarter of de-growth... According to estimates, the segment (5 ton-49 ton) saw a 41.2% drop in September 2013 while it witnessed a 27.26% decline in the first half of 2013... According to the India Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT) factors such as growth rate remaining stagnant at below 5% and lower factory output have adversely impacted sales since April 2012 and remains the same story in September 2013... The three main categories of trucks are long haul heavy duty, haulage and Tippers among others... Market experts claim that Indian truck manufacturers are losing out to competition from cheaper vehicles from China and also due to fall in sales in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, which has been one of the bigger consumers of Indian trucks...


* Chennai - Ashok Leyland declines to go beyond Stile

Bombay,Maharashtra,India -Business Standard, by Swaraj Baggonkar -October 9, 2013: -- Says has no further passenger vehicle ambitions, will continue as commercial vehicle manufacturer... India's second largest truck manufacturer Ashok Leyland, which launched a multi-seater van on Monday, said it does not have further passenger vehicle ambitions and would more likely remain a commercial vehicle manufacturer... The Chennai-headquartered, Hinduja Group company, launched a multi-purpose vehicle named Stile, aimed at the commercial use segment such as taxis and hotel transfers...
