* Illinois - Trucking companies sue over alleged engine defects

Springfield,ILL,USA -The National Law Journal, by Laura Castro -July 23, 2014: -- Three trucking companies have filed a putative class action against Navistar International Corp. in an Illinois federal court, accusing the manufacturer of knowingly equipping its 2008-2013 model trucks with diesel engines containing defective emission systems that can lead to sudden breakdowns or poisonous exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment... Plaintiffs Denis Gray Trucking, Carmichael Leasing Co. Inc., and GTL Enterprises Inc. sued the trucking company on July 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for unfair, unlawful, and fraudulent business practices, breach of express and implied warranties, and related claims... The suit was filed on behalf of plaintiffs and all current and former purchasers and lessees nationwide of 2008-2013 model year Navistar vehicles equipped with "Maxxforce Advanced EGR diesel Engines" ...  Navistar uses Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology in its vehicles to reduce emissions by subjecting exhaust flowing out of the engine to a second burn in the cylinders...
