-- Transport Certification Australia (TCA) has reported an increase in the number of heavy vehicles that enrolled in the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) over the last 12 months... The IAP is a voluntary program that uses the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to monitor heavy vehicles' road use, giving transport operators flexible access to the Australian road network to suit their specific business and operational needs...

* S.A. - Tougher penalties drafted for South Eastern Freeway

-- The South Australian State Government is drafting new laws with tougher penalties for truck drivers caught speeding and failing to use a low gear on the South Eastern Freeway... Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Stephen Mullighan, said the measures were being made in response to coronial recommendations handed down into the death of truck driver, James Venning, as well as other serious incidents involving out-of-control trucks on the freeway... “These terrible crashes came at the cost of innocent lives and revealed the tragic consequences of unsafe vehicles and unsafe driving on the steep freeway descent,” Mullighan said and added "The Government will work with industry and road safety groups to design an inspection program for heavy vehicle to crack down on unroadworthy trucks"...
