* Indiana - Truck drivers remain in high demand in region

--- Trucking companies seeking drivers posted online the most help-wanted advertisements in northeast Indiana last year, which came as no surprise to professionals who work with the industry... “There’s still a major driver shortage not only in the state of Indiana, but around the country. It’s probably been going on now for at least three or four years, if not longer,” said Barry Miller, director of safety and membership for the Indiana Motor Truck Association... The most recent data available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show last May 1.7 million heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers were hauling goods nationwide, earning a median wage of $40,260. The median wage of all occupations at the time was $36,200... Last year, 6,425 northeast Indiana residents were employed driving tractor-trailer rigs...
